A graduate in architecture, Gaetano Sciolari took over, in 1949, the family business Sciolari Lighting, founded in Rome in 1892, and propelled it to international prominence. Founder and first president of the Italian association of lighting fixture manufacturers, his creations combine avant-garde formal research, geometric inspirations, elegance, and sophistication.
This pair of table lamps, with cylindrical bases made of chromed steel blades and perspex shades, are characteristic of his best work from the 1970s, between Art Deco and Space Age aesthetics. With their generous dimensions — 85.5 cm high, 48 cm diameter — they embody the sculptural power of a designer who is highly sought after today.
